Overview

Bend sits on the east slope of the Cascades; the west-side trail networks (Phil's, Wanoga, Swampy, Dutchman Flat/Flagline) start minutes from town along Century Drive and the Cascade Lakes Highway. Redmond/Bend airport (RDM) is a 25-minute drive from downtown; Portland is about 175 miles (Cog Wild's trip-planning page: https://www.cogwild.com/vacation-planning-info/ (opens in a new tab)). Central Oregon logistics are shuttle-friendly: one private operator (Cog Wild) runs scheduled daily shuttles from downtown, and several shops rent bikes within a few miles of the trails. Note: Deschutes National Forest only allows Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes on select trails; Cog Wild drops e-MTBs only at Wanoga, not Swampy or Dutchman (https://www.cogwild.com/shuttles/bend-mountain-bike-shuttles/ (opens in a new tab)).
